The first day of my internship I made it to my office, Lott Furniture in Laurel, Sarah set me and my coworker, Claire, up with a desk on the balcony in the store. Because I am sitting up there hopefully I gain furniture sales experience by association. I met the Lott furniture crew and went straight to work. Claire and I went to a job site to measure windows, after that we went and looked at granite for another client. For lunch we went to Lee's Coffee Shop--my new favorite place to eat. It is a cute, vintage coffee shop that is right around the corner from Lott. I recommend the simply grilled chicken sandwich but you can't go wrong with anything you order. After lunch I worked on drawing out a floor plan for a client's house in AutoCAD, this computer program I am still getting familiar with but hoping to be a pro by the end of the summer. Once that floor plan was finished we started looking at lighting and furniture options for another client then the day was over. It went by super fast but it was a great first day and I got to experience so much already.

My boss, Sarah Moffett, works on the HGTV series Home Town and also has clients in Laurel. Right now she is filming and designing for the show so I am her right hand man with her clients. I have already helped install a small renovation and pick furniture and finishes for a client who is doing a total home remodel that is still under construction.

Sarah wears many hats, one of them being a event planner/decorator which I got to help her out with as well. The event was an elegant, rustic wedding in Soso, MS. It had an outdoor wedding ceremony with an indoor/outdoor reception. I helped set the tables and decorate the arches outside. I also helped Sarah with making sure the wedding party was doing good and ready for pictures. It was a beautiful day with a nice breeze to cool us off in the heat. Sarah posted pictures of the event on her Instagram @southernshindigslaurel.

Sarah is from Soso, MS and got her degree from O'More College of Design in Nashville, TN. She worked and lived in Nashville for a while then moved back home and started her own company. I work with another student designer, Claire Coffin, she is a sophomore at Mississippi State. When I have down time during the day I helped put together vignettes for Lott Furniture. So far it has been so much fun getting to explore a new part of Mississippi and I am already gaining so much design experience.
